Red wag platy and red coral can mate?
The red wag platy (Xiphophorus maculatus) and the red coral platy (Xiphophorus variatus) are two species of platy that belong to the Poeciliidae family. It is possible to have hybrids between species of the same genus, including Xiphophorus, where members of different Xiphophorus species (such as platies, swordtails, and variatus) can interbreed, producing fertile offspring. Therefore, it's possible for the red wag platy and the red coral platy to mate and produce hybrid offspring. However, they are usually incompatible and even if they produce offspring, the resulting hybrids may have reduced fertility or other genetic issues.
