How to Make a Marble Veil

Marble Veils are a special strain of angelfish obtained through decades of selective breeding. The Marble Veils possess a white, black and yellow marbling pattern on their scales, and their fins are long and delicate, even more so than most other angelfish. The creation of a new Marble Veil can take from one to several weeks, depending on a variety of factors, but there are several ways to create the best possible breeding and hatching environment for them.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place your Marble Veils in a single aquarium and wait for them to begin forming mating pairs.

    • 2

Watch the fish over the next week or two until you see a definite pairing. You will notice the fish always swim close together, usually away from the rest of the Marble Veils. When you see this, isolate the pair, either by putting them in a separate aquarium or by moving the other fish to smaller tanks or bowls.

    • 3

Provide the Marble Veils with a piece of slate or some other flat object by laying it down at about a 30-degree angle at the bottom of their aquarium. They will need a flat surface so that when they begin to mate, the female will have a place to lay her eggs.

    • 4

Check in on the pair again every so often over the next 2-3 days. If the pairing has been successful, the female will have lain her eggs, which will hatch after approximately 3 days. If the female has not lain any eggs after one or two weeks, it may be an unsuccessful pairing or she may be infertile. If this is the case, it's best to place all the fish back in the same aquarium and wait for another pair to form so that you can repeat the process. When the eggs hatch, it's best to feed the young Marble Veils newly hatched brine shrimp until they grow large enough to eat standard fish flakes.
