Care for a Black Piranha

The black piranha is one of the rarest, and most feared of all piranhas. Black piranhas have powerful bodies and large sharp triangular teeth. Speculation maintains that the black piranha will attack human beings. Although these fish are sometimes available in pet stores, they are difficult to maintain due to their aggressive nature.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your 100-gallon fiber tank. Layer the bottom of the tank with aquarium gravel and fill it with neutral pH water. Most tap water is neutral pH. Decorate the tank with a few large aquarium rocks and floating plants.

    • 2

Attach the heater to the suction cups, and mount it inside the tank. Set the thermostat between 75 and 81 degrees Fahrenheit. Check the heater regularly to maintain the temperature. Install the water filter system similarly. Check all plugs, tubing and gauges to ensure proper instillation. Allow time for the tank to heat, and filter properly. Check the thermometer to ensure it is warm before attempting to place the fish.

Place the piranha into the tank. Avoid giving the fish too much unwanted attention, and allow it time to adjust to its new surroundings. Offer the piranha some frozen shrimp or fish to eat. A diet of frozen food is healthier for them than live feeder fish.

Feed your piranha daily. Check the water filter and temperature daily. Clean the piranha tank every 30 days.
