Things You'll Need
- Fish tank
- Oxygen pump
- Filter
- Heater
- Fish food
- Plastic grass
Instructions
Set up your fish tank and fill it with water. Set the heater on your fish tank to between 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the water cycle though the fish tank for at least a week before you add the fish.
Place two to three female adult guppies and one male adult guppy in the tank. Inbred guppies have more difficulty surviving, so purchase your male guppy from a different store than your females.
Feed the fish a pinch of food every day. Clean the aquarium as at least once a week and do not allow the water to become cloudy. If one of the fish becomes ill, remove it from the tank immediately.
Watch the female guppies for signs of pregnancy. Once they begin mating, you might notice the females' abdomens growing.
Set up a few plastic grass plants along the bottom of your tank. This provides an ideal place for the guppies to be born. Use gravel to weigh down the bottom of the plants and keep them in place.
Feed the baby guppies a pinch of crushed veggie flakes at least twice per day. The pieces must be small enough to fit in their mouths. Of the several dozen guppies that are born, only a handful will survive because the mothers eat their young. There is no way to prevent this. After one to two months, you will begin to see the colors and markings on the baby guppies.
