How to Breed Minnows

Minnows are part of a large fish family, usually used as food for other animals like water dogs, turtles and larger fish. They are silver and are usually herbivorous. They can thrive in many conditions and have a very short breeding time. Because they're so easy to handle, many people raise and breed minnows themselves as food for other pets.

    • 1

Cover the back and sides of your fish tank with dark paper to make the minnows more comfortable.

    • 2

Fill your fish tank with tap water.

    • 3

Install your filter and air pump, per the manufacturer's directions.

    • 4

Use the dechlorination chemical to purify the water. Always follow the manufacturer's directions when dealing with chemicals.

    • 5

    • 6

    • 7

Feed the fish once a day.

Minnows will breed and reproduce quickly, of their own accord.
