What does an whale shark look like?
Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are the largest living fish species and are found in warm waters around the world. They can reach an average length of 18-30 feet, with some individuals growing even longer. Whale sharks have a long, cylindrical body with a broad, flattened head and a large, wide mouth. Their skin is typically dark blue or grey with a pattern of pale yellow or white spots and stripes. They have two large pectoral fins and a long, whip-like tail. Their mouth is located at the front of their head and is surrounded by a series of small, bristly teeth. Whale sharks have large gills located on the sides of their head, which they use to filter water and extract plankton and other small organisms.
