What shape do lipids have?
Lipids are a diverse group of molecules that are insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. They have a variety of shapes, depending on their chemical structure. Some lipids, such as triglycerides, are non-polar and have a spherical or oval shape. Other lipids, such as phospholipids, are polar and have a more complex shape, with a hydrophilic (water-attracting) head and a hydrophobic (water-repelling) tail. The shape of a lipid molecule determines its function and its ability to interact with other molecules. For example, the spherical shape of triglycerides allows them to store energy efficiently, while the complex shape of phospholipids allows them to form cell membranes.
