Is the boss of chimpanzee community called alpha male usually smartest or biggest male?

The boss of a chimpanzee community is called an alpha male and is usually the strongest male, not necessarily the smartest. Chimpanzees live in hierarchical societies where social rank is determined by dominance. Dominant males are able to maintain their position by physical strength and aggression. While intelligence can be a factor in achieving dominance, it is not the sole determinant. In fact, some studies have shown that more intelligent chimpanzees may be less likely to engage in aggressive behaviour and therefore less likely to achieve dominance.
