How did the quagga look?
The quagga (Equus quagga quagga) was a subspecies of the plains zebra that was native to South Africa. It had a distinctive appearance with a reddish-brown body and a white belly, and stripes on the front half of its body. The quagga's stripes were dark brown or black, and they extended from the head to the shoulders, and down the sides of the body. The legs were white, and the tail was black with a white tip. The quagga stood about 1.3 metres (4 feet 3 inches) at the shoulder and weighed between 250 and 300 kilograms (550 and 660 pounds). The quagga was a social animal that lived in herds of up to 30 individuals.
