How to Breed Cherry Shrimp on a Farm

Cherry shrimp is a species of red-colored shrimp that thrive in similar water conditions as most other aquarium fish. Breeding cherry shrimp on a farm requires minimal work. Both female and male shrimp should be placed in the aquarium. After successfully breeding, the female carries yellowish eggs under her tail for 30 days, until they hatch. By following a few basic guidelines, you can successfully breed cherry shrimp.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a 10-gallon tank to accommodate 100 to 150 cherry shrimp. Set the water temperature within the range of 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The pH level -- how acidic or alkaline the water is -- should be in the 6.5 to 8.0 range.

    • 2

Supply your cherry shrimp with prepared fish food, blanched vegetables and the algae that naturally grows in the tank. Blanched vegetables such as zucchini and squash are suitable for your cherry shrimp. Feed them in small amounts once a day.

    • 3

Place females and male cherry shrimp that are 4 to 6 months together in the tank. Breeding will take place after a female shrimp molts -- shedding its external skeleton. When the female shrimp releases pheromones, the male will find her, and breeding will take place.
