How to Get the Right Humidity for Hermit Crabs

Hermit crabs make great first time pets because they are relatively easy to keep and maintain. However, with hermit crabs being maritime animals, humidity is extremely important to their physical and psychological health. Thus, when keeping hermit crabs, humidity should be kept to the exact need for the species. Put time and effort into creating a healthy environment for your hermit crab to make your pet-owning experience a memorable one.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape the back off of the stick-on humidity reader and apply the sticky end to your hermit crab's tank. The reader should be stuck firmly so that humidity and water does not get on the sticky pad and diminish its ability to stick on the tank.

    • 2

Examine your current humidity range and see what range it is in. A hermit crab requires humidity between 70 and 80 percent and reaching this optimal range is crucial to its health.

    • 3

Turn on your heater and set the range for 80 F. Wait one hour and monitor your humidity range and note the increase in humidity. Spray your spray bottle one squirt at a time and wait one hour for the water to become humidity. Repeat your sprays until you have reached the 70 to 80 percent humidity level.

Monitor your humidity daily and spray roughly half of how many sprays it originally took to get to 70 to 80 percent humidity each day to maintain the humidity level.
