Things You'll Need
- 4 sheets of 1-inch lumber, 16 inches by 9 inches
- 2 sheets of 1-inch lumber, 9 inches by 9 inches
- Hammer
- Stock nails
- Seedless cotton
- Drill
- Ladder
Instructions
Nail the four 16-by-9-inch sheets of lumber to create a rectangular box without a top.
Nail the two 9-by-9-inch lumber sheets onto the top and base of the rectangular box. Test the sturdiness of your box by gently rapping it against a tree to ensure that all sides are connected and will not break apart.
Dill a hole that is 4 inches in one of the 16-inch-by-9-inch sides of the rectangular box. Drill a small hole in the middle of the sheet and make circular motions around the hole with your drill to expand the hole size until it is 4 inches.
Stuff the seedless cotton into your squirrel box through the 4-inch hole to create a warm and soft environment that will attract squirrels to live in the box.
Select a tree you wish to have your squirrel box and place it at least 30 feet from the ground. Use the ladder to reach the 30-foot mark and nail both sides of the back end of box onto the tree.
