How to Care for a Chicken With a Broken Wing

Although chickens do not fly, a broken wing is still painful and may affect their balance. You can spot a broken wing by the way the chicken carries it. The chicken will drag the wing on the ground, or the wing will appear twisted. Treating a broken wing as actually a pretty simple process. The treatment only takes a few minutes, but it takes up to two weeks to heal once treated.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the wing into a natural pose. Hold the bird gently while you do this. You may prefer to have someone help you, as the bird will probably squirm during this procedure.

    • 2

Wrap gauze around the bird to hold the gauze in place. Use enough gauze to hold the wing securely against the chicken's body.

    • 3

Leave the gauze in place for two weeks, or until the wing is healed.
