DIY Pet Memorial

For many, the loss of a pet is similar to the loss of a family member. Pets are not only great companions, but once they pass away they are missed because they are no longer a part of your daily life. Fortunately, there are several ways to make your own proper pet memorial. It will serve as a reminder of your bond with your pet and help others honor the memory of your pet as well.

Instructions

  1. Outdoor

    • 1

Plant flowers in your garden or backyard in honor of your late pet. Even if the pet was not buried there, the flowers and solace can serve as a tribute to your pet's life.

    • 2

Place a garden bench close to the area where the flowers are planted. This will provide a comfortable place of solace, reflecting and remembering.

    • 3

Have a plaque made to honor your pet and place it near the flower garden or gravesite. It should mimic a headstone and feature the pet's name, date of birth, date of death and favorite activity.

    Indoor

    • 4

Have a professional sketch artist or painter create a portrait of your deceased pet from a photo that you have kept. You can hang this in your home near the area where your pet would typically be found.

    • 5

Purchase a stuffed animal that reminds you of your pet. Although it might not be a perfect resemblance, you can keep the stuffed animal in your home and surround it with your deceased pet's toys, feeding bowls or clothing.

    • 6

Find a visible place to put the urn that holds your pet's ashes. Place it on a high shelf or mantle to make sure it is out of reach of small children or other pets.

Create a photo book and fill it with pictures of your pet. You can order the pictures chronologically and end with the most recent photo you have. Write memories of your pet on notecards and include them in the book.
