How to Stop Crows From Eating All My Deer Corn

Crows are a common pests in both the city and in the countryside. Not only are they noisy, but they also drop feces, and oftentimes steal food meant for other animals. If you would like to keep crows from stealing the corn that you leave out for deer there is a simple solution. Build a deer feeder. This is a simple contraption that has a locking mechanism that a deer will be able to activate but others animals won't.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off the top part of the wooden handle of the plunger and leave about 3 inches of it remaining. Measure the diameter of the handle.

    • 2

Drill a hole into the bottom of the 5-gallon plastic bucket with the electric drill. Make the hole about 1/2 inch wider than the handle of the plunger.

    • 3

Put the handle of the plunger through the hole. The top of the plunger handle should go through the hole from the inside of the bucket.

    • 4

Fasten the rope around the handle of the bucket, and throw the rope over a sturdy tree limb. Lift the bucket up so it is 4 feet off the ground. Tie off the rope and make sure that it is secure so that it will not fall.

    • 5

Put corn or deer feed into bucket and put the lid back on so that the crows can't get to it.

    • 6

Put some honey at the end of the plunger handle, and spread some corn around beneath the bucket.

    • 7

Wait for the deer to come. The idea is that the deer will be attracted to the corn around the bucket and notice the honey on the plunger handle. When it licks the plunger handle it will push it up slightly lifting it up just enough so that more corn spills out on the ground. Once it has done this a few times, it will remember how and come back again.
