What is a red paco?

A red paco is a variety of South American camel. It is one of the two domesticated species of camel in South America, alongside the llama. Red pacos are bred mainly in the Andes of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and northern Argentina, for their wool, which is highly valued for its softness, warmth, and durability. It has a long slender neck, long slender legs, and ears that are about 17 cm (6.7 in) long. Unlike llamas, red pacos have a characteristic curly wool, which is why they are often called "curly alpacas". Red pacos are also notable for their friendly and docile nature, making them popular pets in many parts of the world.
