How big was the cave lion?
Cave lions (Panthera leo spelaea) were larger than modern African lions, with males reaching lengths of up to 3.2 meters (10.5 feet), and weights of up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds). Females were smaller, with lengths of up to 2.8 meters (9.2 feet), and weights of up to 175 kilograms (385 pounds). Cave lions had broader skulls, shorter necks and legs, and more powerful jaws compared to modern lions.
