Why do manatee have layer of fat or blubber around their body?

Protection

- This layer of fat insulates the manatee and helps it stay warm in cold waters.

Buoyancy

- This layer of fat also provides buoyancy, helping the manatee to float and move through the water easily.

Energy Storage

- The blubber also serves as a storage for energy. When food is scarce, the manatee can draw upon the stored energy in its fat to survive.
