What is the red throated loons niche?
Red-throated loons are diving waterbirds that feed primarily on fish, but also consume some invertebrates. They typically hunt in shallow waters, diving down to depths of up to 100 feet to pursue prey. Red-throated loons are solitary nesters, and typically lay two eggs per clutch. Chicks hatch after about 28 days and are able to swim and dive soon after hatching. Red-throated loons are found in northern North America, Europe, and Asia, and winter along the coasts of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
