What is monuril?

Drug

Monuril is the trade name for fosfomycin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic used primarily for the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). It belongs to the class of antibiotics known as phosphonic acid derivatives. Monuril is usually administered as a single oral dose to uncomplicated and uncomplicated UTIs caused by susceptible bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis by interfering with the synthesis of peptidoglycan. Monuril is generally well-tolerated, with common side effects including diarrhea, nausea, and headache. It is generally not recommended for use in patients with severe renal impairment.
