What is chalaza?

The chalaza is a small, whitish structure found at the base of the egg yolk. It consists of a mass of protein fibres that hold the yolk in place. The chalaza is composed of two main parts: the inner chalaza, which is connected to the yolk sac, and the outer chalaza, which is connected to the egg white. The chalaza is important for keeping the yolk in the centre of the egg and preventing it from moving around too much. It is also thought to play a role in the development of the embryo.
