Turkey is native to North America. Currently known as “wild turkeys”, they are most abundant in the eastern part of the United States, Central America and northern South America. Turkeys were domesticated by indigenous people in Mexico, and from there they were brought to Europe by Spanish explorers. There is no península that holds the majority of the world's turkeys.
