What habitat do chinchillas live in?

Chinchillas are native to the Andes Mountains in South America. They live in rocky habitats at high altitudes, where the air is thin and the climate is cold and dry. Chinchillas are well-adapted to this environment, with thick fur that helps them to stay warm, and large ears that help them to hear predators. They are also very agile, and can jump long distances to escape from danger.
