Chinchillas are native to the Andes Mountains of South America, specifically in Chile and Peru. They thrive in high altitude, rocky, arid regions with very little vegetation. The tundra, on the other hand, is characterized by extremely cold temperatures, permafrost, and low-lying vegetation.
The harsh conditions of the tundra would be too extreme for chinchillas to survive.
