How to Find Mates for My Toad

There are more than 300 species of toad and many of them resemble frogs. The main difference is that they have chubbier bodies and warty skin. Search for a mate for your toad if you're interested in producing offspring. Don't run right to the woods and grab the first toad you see -- it's possible you won't get the type of offspring you were expecting, and it's easy to mistake frogs and toads. Make sure both toads are healthy before you introduce them, so neither spreads diseases to the other.

Instructions

    • 1

Start your search for a mate right before the spring.

Toads tend to mate in the spring, so introduce your toad to its mate before mating season.

    • 2

Call a pet store and ask if they have any toads in stock.

Ask what breeds are available and whether they've been sexed.

    • 3

Bring your toad to the pet store if you aren't sure what its gender is.

A representative will be able to help you sex the toad. Female toads, in general, are larger than males. Male toads are the ones who make sounds like chirping and music.
