How to Keep Gray Tree Frog Eggs

Gray tree frogs lay their eggs in standing water, including small ponds, tire ruts and swimming pools. The females lay up to 1,800 eggs in clumps of 30 to 40. If you find a clump of eggs, it's best to leave the eggs undisturbed. But if the water is drying up, you can attempt to rescue the eggs and keep them yourself. The eggs usually hatch in less than four days, but may take longer depending on the temperature.

Instructions

    • 1

Scoop the egg mass carefully into a plastic shoe box. Try and use the same water that the eggs are floating in to fill the box.

    • 2

Cover the shoe box with a lid to prevent evaporation. Keep the eggs and water at room temperature. They will quickly hatch into tadpoles.

    • 3

Wait until the tadpoles are active and swimming around before you begin feeding them. This takes about a week. Until then, they will live off their yolk.

    • 4

Release the tadpoles in a body of water near the area where you found them.
