How to Breed Albino Water Frogs

Albino water frogs are a variation of African clawed frogs, that are usually entirely aquatic. They are relatively easy to keep and to breed. In fact, it is easy to breed more froglets than you know what to do with. Some frogs will breed to the point that they, especially the females, become ill. Therefore, it is important to plan your breeding program carefully

Instructions

    • 1

Set up at least three tanks for albino water frogs; include gravel, rocks, filters and aquatic plants.

    • 2

Separate male and female frogs in separate tanks, until they are ready to breed. It is better to breed males and females from different suppliers: Otherwise, the chances are high that they will be related, and their offspring will be subject to genetic deformities.

    • 3

Transfer the two genders to the same tank, once they are fully mature. This happens at about five inches long, and over a year and a half old. The frogs can breed before this, but it is not good for them. The males indicate that they want to breed by calling.

    • 4

Keep the tank relatively quiet and dark, until the frogs mate, and the females lay eggs.

    • 5

Remove the eggs to the third tank; otherwise the adult frogs will eat them. Take about twice, or three times, as many as you want to mature -- but not much more. There will be hundreds of eggs: But it is unlikely you can find homes for several hundred frogs.

    • 6

Separate the adult frogs by gender, once again.

    • 7

Feed the tadpoles fish fry food, to begin with.

    • 8

Change about a third of the water in the tadpole tank, every couple of days.

    • 9

Feed the tadpoles tadpole pellets or small live food, as they get bigger.
