How to Feed Pac Man Frogs

Pac Man frogs, also known as Ornate Horned frogs, are indigenous to South America. This species has declined in population throughout recent years, so proper care and nutrition is a key element to sustaining its general survival. As house pets, Pac Man frogs lose much of their ability not only to catch their own prey but also to eat it safely. Thus, a feeder bowl is a useful mechanism in preventing such potentially fatal mistakes.

Things You'll Need

  • Feeder bowl (with enough water for the frog to be comfortable in for a half-hour)
  • Live meal (for example, crickets, worms, feeder fish, small mouse)

Instructions

    • 1

Set up a feeding bowl in an enclosed area outside of the frog's regular habitat in order to prevent it from swallowing gravel. Clean this feeding bowl before each feeding time and ensure that enough water is present in the bowl when the frog is in it so that he can keep wet.

    • 2

Set the Pac Man frog's food inside of the feeder bowl. They typically eat crickets, feeder fish or worms. Pac Man frogs can also eat small rodents, as long as they are not larger than half of the frog's body size.

    • 3

Place the Pac Man frog inside of the feeder bowl and allow him to catch his prey. Permit him to remain within the bowl for approximately half an hour.

    • 4

Allow the frog to eat his meal. Make sure he is allotted a sizable meal every two or three days, depending on his body size.

    • 5

Replace the frog back into his regular aquarium habitat. Clean this tank about one week after he has eaten. This is the amount of time it should take for the frog to defecate.
