Before breeding fire belly toads, it is always a good idea to ask your local vet the sex. You can always try sexing them yourself but it is a bit difficult. Most males have sticky large pads under their fingers in order to grab onto the females for breeding sake.

Set the female and male in the same setting. They can actually live with each other without causing any threat to one another. Fire belly frogs will not eat each other unless they are actually under starvation, so there is no point to separate them. It is actually a better idea to have 2 males and 4 males in the aquarium. This way there are many eggs.

Put the aquarium in the basement for about six weeks. What we are trying to do is create a cool down period which will trigger the mating season. Make sure it doesn't go below 45F or they could die. Once the six weeks is up, raise the temperature gradually.

When you are breeding fire belly toads, make sure you watch them though to actually see if any progress is coming along. The male should try to capture the female and climb onto her back for awhile. If she stays in that position, it is a good indicator that mating is successful.

Once you completed breeding fire belly frogs, it is time for the female to lay her eggs. She should lay about 200 eggs on the shore of your aquarium or also around any rocky areas.
Always make sure once the female has laid her eggs, to separate them. Carefully remove the eggs and transfer them into another aquarium. Make sure the tank is at exactly 77F and have 2 or 3 inches of water. Enough water to play in, but not drown in once they hatch. The eggs should hatch in roughly 3-4 days at most.
