How to Care for a White's Tree Frog

The white's tree frog is a fairly large frog. They can live 15 years or more and grow three to five inches long. This frog is one of the most successful frogs in nature because it has a unique skin that allows it to retain moisture. White's tree frogs are great for beginners but they will still require fairly extensive care from a dedicated owner.

      Provide your frog with an enclosure that is at least 20 gallons. Also get a locking screen top for the aquarium.

      Cover the bottom of the cage with a substrate that will help you maintain a high humidity level in the aquarium. Peat moss, orchid bark and mulch make great substrates.

      Place several large climbing branches in the aquarium. They should be at least as wide as your frog. Add a few live plants as well to decorate the aquarium and help retain humidity.

      Keep the aquarium away from direct sunlight and at room temperature. Monitor the temperature and be sure it stays between 70 and 90 degrees inside the aquarium.

      Light the aquarium with full spectrum lighting as this will benefit both your frog and the live plants. Be sure to set this light on a timer because white's tree frogs are nocturnal and will be most active at night.

      Fill a large shallow bowl with clean non-chlorinated water and place it in the cage. Be sure to change the water daily to maintain a clean healthy cage.

      Spray the entire enclosure with a mist of non-chlorinated water once a week to maintain the humidity level your frog will need.

      Feed the white's tree frog feeder insects from your local pet store. Crickets are readily available and should be dusted with a reptile vitamin and mineral supplement weekly before being placed in the aquarium.
