How to Make a Gray Tree Frog Terrarium

Gray tree frogs are small enough to be kept on an office desk. These timid creatures like to climb vertical branches and absorb moisture through the skin rather than drink. The frog hides out during the day and feeds at night. You can make a terrarium out of a large doll display case, or make a larger terrarium for multiple frogs. Regardless of the terrarium's size, the frog will need a moist, tall terrarium with large-leaf plants.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick out a habitat. A single gray tree frog can live in a large doll display case, two or three frogs can live in a 5-gallon tank, and multiple frogs can live in a 10-gallon tank. The terrarium needs to be more tall than wide.

    • 2

Fill the bottom of the habitat with coconut husk shavings. The shavings, which will be changed out for cleaning, can be bought in large bags at your local pet store. Use a spray bottle to moisten the shavings thoroughly.

    • 3

Build the habitat vertically. Fill the container with large-leafed tree limbs. Tree frogs have been known to dig up natural plants for hiding places, so fake plants are recommended. Spray water to coat the leaves with moisture.

    • 4

Place hiding places along the bottom of the terrarium if there is room. You can buy hollowed-out logs, rocks or toy decorations for your terrarium at a pet store.

    • 5

Decide how you will keep the habitat moist. A running fountain, waterfall or drip system can automatically moisten the environment for you, or you'll have to use the spray bottle on a daily basis.

    • 6

Place a cricket inside the terrarium for every frog you plan to keep. The cricket should be no larger than the space in between the frog's eyes.

    • 7

Place your gray tree frogs into the terrarium. They will jump off your hand to the green of the leaves.
