How to Breed Dwarf Aquatic Frogs

African dwarf aquatic frogs are native to Africa and only grow to around 1 1/2 inches. Although these frogs are aquatic and spend the majority of their time underwater, they also breath air when they occasionally pop up out of the water. The African dwarf frog displays an odd floating habit in which it floats with its legs and arms stretched out, making it an interesting pet to watch. Owners of African dwarf aquatic frogs can breed them when their frogs are around 10 months of age.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a female and male dwarf aquatic frog. Ask specifically for one of each when you purchase them. The female is generally slightly larger than the male and has a small bump between her legs.

    • 2

Create a suitable, comfortable habitat for your frogs. A fish tank filled with clean, chlorine-free water is a must. Keep water temperature between 68 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 3

Add hiding places within the tank for the frog to hide in. Use things such as pots, rocks, driftwood or tank decorations.

    • 4

Feed your dwarf aquatic frogs every day or every other day a diet of bloodworms, brine shrimp, earthworms, crickets or pellet food specially made for frogs.

    • 5

Be patient and wait for breeding to occur. The male will attach to the back of the female and hang on during the breeding process.

    • 6

Remove the eggs from the tank after the female lays them so that the frogs do not eat them.

    • 7

Place the eggs in an aerated tank with a water temperature kept at 74 F, and in just three to four days they hatch into tadpoles.
