How to Care for a Malayan Leaf Frog

The Malaysian leaf frog is also known as the leaf horned frog. This amphibian is naturally found in Indonesia, Malaysia and Borneo. The frog grows to about 5 inches in length and requires a 10-gallon tank for its home. The tank's contents will be similar to the natural habitat of the frog. Damp ground, humid air and places to hide all reflect the environment the leaf frog is comfortable with.

Place the substrate in the bottom of the tank. Dampen the substrate everyday to ensure proper humidity. Add artificial or live plants and branches or a cave. Frogs like to have a places to hide.

Place the bowl into the tank and fill it with fresh water. The bowl must be large enough for the frog to soak in. Add the water treatment liquid. This removes any chlorine or other chemicals found in tap water that may injury the frog. Affix the thermometer to the side of the tank. Internal tank temperature must be between 65 and 75 degrees. The humidity must be at 80 percent.

    • 4

Place the UVB light on top of the screen lid. The light source must be within 18 inches of the frog. Leave the light on for 12 hours a day.

Feed the frog crickets and mealworms until they grow enough to eat larger prey. Larger prey consists of pinkie mice and small rodents. These are all available at most pet stores and online. Any food item must be dipped into a powdered calcium supplement. This ensures the frog is receiving the right amount of nutrients.
