Instructions
Ensure the frog is in good physical condition. Take the frog to a veterinarian that specializes in frogs and exotic pets and have the frog assessed for size, weight and overall health. Make sure the frog is not under- or overweight so that you can feed it without limitations.
Make sure you have a large enough tank to house the frog, and that you have a lid with a tight fitting opening for feeding purposes.
Keep all food items in a container with a lid when it is time to feed the frog. The African Bullfrog is carnivorous and prefers live mice, salamanders, small snakes, winged and non-winged insects and rats. Do not mix too many different feeder animals together, and feed the frog only one to two food options at a time.
When you are ready to feed the frog, lift the lid of the container and, using the tongs, select one food item, such as a mouse, from the feeding container, and place it beside the frog. Remove your hand and tongs quickly and close the lid tightly. Allow the frog to eat the food at its own pace.
Continue feeding the frog until the last insect or animal placed inside is left untouched by the frog, signaling that it is finished eating. Remove the live animal by using the hatch and tongs.
Repeat these steps whenever it is time to feed the frog. The African Bullfrog is a sedentary creature but becomes increasingly active when it gets hungry. Feed the animal when it starts moving around frequently, signaling that it is time to eat.
Make sure the bullfrog has plenty of fresh and clean water at all times. Even though African Bullfrogs will eat just about anything placed in front of them, remember to stick to small rodents, mammals, birds and insects to replicate the diet most similar to that of their natural habitat.
