Can a African dwarf frog live in water that is over 1 ft tall?

African dwarf frogs (Hymenochirus boettgeri) are semi-aquatic frogs native to the tropical forests of sub-Saharan Africa. While they spend most of their time in the water, they do need to be able to come to the surface to breathe air. As such, the water in their enclosure should not be too deep.

The ideal water depth for an African dwarf frog is between 2 and 4 inches. This allows them to easily come to the surface to breathe without having to swim too far. Water that is deeper than 1 foot can be too difficult for them to navigate, and they may drown.

In addition to the water depth, it is also important to consider the size of the enclosure. African dwarf frogs need a minimum of a 10-gallon tank, but larger is always better. This gives them plenty of room to swim, explore, and hide. The tank should also have a tight-fitting lid to prevent the frogs from escaping.

By providing your African dwarf frog with the proper water depth and enclosure size, you can help ensure their health and happiness.
