Information on Leopard Geckos

Leopard geckos can be interesting and fun pets. They are native to India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in rocky terrain. They are nocturnal, meaning they are awake and active at night.
  1. Appearance

    • Leopard geckos have a triangular head and a thick tail, where they store their fat. Their skin is bumpy and heavily patterned but soft to the touch. They have eyelids, which is unusual. They do not have clinging toe pads, so they can't walk on vertical surfaces.

    Colors

    • Leopard geckos have yellow, brown, white and leucistic phases. They are usually white or pale yellow with dark brown spots. Young geckos have bands of color that break up into spots as they age.

    Life Span

    • Leopard geckos can live 15 to 20 years. If you have a pet leopard gecko, you will have a companion for a long time.

    Buying a Leopard Gecko

    • Leopard geckos are sold in pet stores. They are good first reptiles to own because they need minimal care.

    Water and Food

    • Leopard geckos need fresh water every day. A diet of crickets is a good plan. Leopard geckos can become overweight, so if you have a pet gecko, keep an eye on how much it is eating.

    Light and Humidity

    • Because leopard geckos are nocturnal, they don't need UVB light. You can still use a light if you prefer. They need humidity to be at 40 percent to 60 percent.
