Day Geckos Habitat

The day gecko is a member of the lizard family. There are about 25 known species of day gecko, which are unlike other geckos in that they are active during the day, not the night.
  1. Location

    • Day geckos are native to Madagascar and its surrounding islands in the Indian Ocean. There are also far-removed day gecko populations in the Andaman Islands, South Africa and Tanzania.

    Climate

    • Day geckos live in warm to hot climates and most prefer their habitat to be extremely humid, though the day geckos in southwestern Madagascar prefer a dry climate.

    Environment

    • Day geckos mainly reside in trees and are commonly found sunbathing on flat surfaces such as rocks.

    Diet

    • Day geckos feed on small arthropods and the occasional fruit. They have also been observed licking honey.

    Size

    • Day geckos range from a few inches to a foot in length.

    Captivity

    • Day geckos are a common pet, but they must be kept in a large enclosure that provides both ultraviolet B light, a place to bask and small, shaded areas to keep from overheating.
