How to Take Care of an Outside Gecko

Geckos are one of the most populous lizards. They are also one of the most varied species on Earth, coming in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. The gecko is well-known for its bright colors and its trademark ability to climb smooth surfaces such as walls and glass. While its climbing ability is what makes the species famous, the majority of geckos do not possess this trait.

Instructions

    • 1

Plant large bushes and plants to attract insects the geckos will feed on. Bushes and plants should be planted in or near sun-lit areas to provide places for the geckos to sunbathe.

    • 2
Chicken-flavored baby food makes a great alternative to live insects.

Provide a shallow container of turkey- or chicken-flavored baby food when insects are scarce. These containers should be no more than 1/2 an inch deep, and must be changed daily to keep away predators and prevent disease.

    • 3

Place shallow containers of clean water throughout your yard or garden for the geckos to drink from. Using the lid from a jar or container is the preferred option as they are not generally deep enough to allow the geckos to drown.

    • 4

Place small containers with holes cut in the sides underneath bushes and in trees for geckos to nest in. These containers should be placed in shady areas to help geckos regulate their body temperature.

Bird feeders attract predators that will eat your geckos.

Remove all bird feeders from your yard or garden. Many birds are natural predators of geckos and will easily destroy the gecko population around your home.
