How to Make a Plastic Breeding Tub for a Leopard Gecko

Leopard geckos are a popular reptile to adopt, whether you're a first-time pet owner or a seasoned vet. If you have a healthy male and female gecko and they've been successfully introduced, you can begin the fairly simple process of breeding them. However, geckos prefer to breed without an audience, so you will have better luck if you move them to a more secluded space than your glass aquarium. Thankfully, it's straightforward and inexpensive to make your own plastic breeding tub.

Things You'll Need

  • Opaque plastic storage tub with lid
  • Hammer and large nail, or drill
  • Small piece of sandpaper
  • Paper towels
  • Two plastic jug caps (such as from milk jugs)
  • Fake plants

Instructions

    • 1

Poke several holes in each side of the plastic tub using the drill or the hammer and nail. This will provide ventilation for the geckos.

    • 2

Sand down any jagged edges around the ventilation holes and inside the tub.

    • 3

Cover the bottom of the tub in paper towels to absorb moisture and for easy cleanup.

    • 4

Fill one jug cap with water and the other with food, and place both inside the tub.

    • 5

Place the fake plants inside the tub to create hiding places for your geckos.
