Repashy Crested Gecko Diet

Repashy Crested Gecko Diet is a powdered meal replacement that is specifically tailored to the dietary needs of the crested gecko (Rhacodactylus ciliatus). According to the book Rhacodactylus: The Care and Selection of Crested Geckos, crested geckos are omnivorous, meaning they eat insects as well as fruit in the wild. Repashy Crested Gecko Diet is nutritionally complete, and therefore it can be fed alone as the gecko's exclusive food. Alternatively, it can be a part of a feeding schedule that also includes crickets.
  1. Types

    • There are four popular types of Repashy Crested Gecko Diet. The first is a one-part diet that is nutritionally complete and is rose flavored. The second is a two-part diet, where the first part is a nutritional base and then the second is a powdered "nectar" made of flavorings and sugars. The two are then combined before serving to a crested gecko. The flavors of nectar available include rose, kiwi, peach, strawberry, cherry, fig and passionfruit.

Additionally, there are two medicated versions of the Repashy Crested Gecko Diet: Nematode Fix and Entamoeba Fix. These can be used as a preventative measure or treatment of hookworms, roundworms, pinworms and entamoeba parasites.

    Recent Formula Changes

    • In late 2008, Repashy added a natural mold-inhibiting preservative, potassium sorbate, to the gecko diet formula after complaints of the diet growing mold very quickly (within 12 to 24 hours) once it was mixed. During this time Repashy also announced that the algae used in the formula had become unavailable, and phaffia yeast would now be substituted as an ingredient for the same nutritional benefits.

The diet has also changed its base flavor from banana to rose, after it was determined by an online poll that this was the flavor that was most popular with the crested geckos in captivity.

    Mixing and Feeding

    • According to the instructions on the package, Repashy Crested Gecko Diet should be mixed one part powder to two parts water. After mixing, it will thicken slightly and can then be offered to the geckos. Crested geckos are nocturnal, and should be fed in the evening. Uneaten crested gecko diet should be removed within a day or two, although the mold inhibitor keeps it from spoiling much longer.

Many crested gecko owners use pre-made decorative feeding dishes that are purchased from a pet store. Others use bottle caps, dipping cups from restaurant supply stores or similar small containers.

    Where To Find

    • Repashy Crested Gecko Diet, as well as a number of other Repashy Gecko Diets, can be found through numerous online suppliers and in many pet stores that sell reptiles. Less-specialized and larger chain pet stores often sell small jars of T-Rex brand crested gecko diet, which is the same product and formula.
