How to Make a Homemade Water Bottle for Gerbils

Water bottles designed for gerbils are available at your local pet store. If you have a gerbil who believes anything inside his home is a chew toy, you may find yourself replacing a plastic bottle as often as you clean his home. With just a few easy steps and a recycled glass bottle, you can make him one that is chew-proof.

Instructions

Find a glass bottle with a screw-on lid, such as an empty olive jar, that fits into your bottle holder. Remove the lid. Place the jar and lid in a sink filled with warm water and mild dish soap. Let them soak to remove any labels and thoroughly wash. Rinse well and air-dry.

Drill a small hole in the center of the lid, large enough for the drinking spout to fit snugly. Apply a thin line of silicone to the edge of the rubber stopper. Secure it to the inside of the lid with the stopper hole and lid hole aligned. Allow the silicone to cure for a few days.

Push the drinking spout through the lid and stopper. Fill the bottle with fresh water, secure the lid and hang inside your gerbil̵7;s home.
