What is colastrum?
Colostrum is the pre-milk fluid produced from the breasts for a few days after childbirth. It is rich in nutrients, antibodies and white blood cells, and helps to protect the baby from infection while their immune system is still developing. Colostrum is also high in protein and contains growth factors that help the baby's body to grow and develop. It is the ideal first food for newborns and is recommended by the World Health Organization as the exclusive food for infants during the first six months of life.
