Why does your gerbil have a bald patch on her nose even though in tank not cage?

Gerbils, like many small animals, can develop a condition known as barbering. This is most often seen in gerbils that are stressed, anxious, or bored. Some common reasons why a gerbil may be stressed and therefore barbering:

- Too small cage: Gerbils need a lot of space to run around and explore. A minimum cage size for two gerbils is 12 inches by 24 inches by 12 inches high, but 20 inches by 40 inches by 20 inches high is better.

- Not enough bedding: Gerbils need at least 4 inches of bedding to burrow in and hide.

- Lack of toys: Gerbils need toys to play with to keep them entertained. Some good choices for gerbils include running wheels, chew toys, and tunnels.

- Isolation: Gerbils are social animals and need at least one other gerbil to live with.

- Environmental changes: Gerbils can become stressed when their environment is changed, such as when they move to a new home, get a new cagemate, or have their cage rearranged.

If you rule out environmental stressors, boredom, and anxiety as possible causes of your gerbil's bald spot, it is possible that she has a medical condition such as a fungal infection, mites, or a tumor. In this case, it is best to take her to the vet for a diagnosis and treatment plan.
