Diet:
* Hay: This is the most important part of their diet. Timothy hay or other grass hay should make up the majority of their food. It provides essential fiber for their digestive system.
* Pellets: Commercially available guinea pig pellets are a good source of vitamins and minerals. They should be given in limited amounts (about 1/8 cup per day for an adult guinea pig).
* Fresh vegetables: Offer a variety of vegetables like bell peppers, spinach, kale, broccoli, and carrots.
* Fresh fruits: Offer a small amount of fruits like apples, bananas, strawberries, or blueberries as treats.
* Vitamin C supplements: Guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C, so it's important to add a supplement to their diet.
How they get their food:
Guinea pigs are grazers. They eat by nibbling on food throughout the day. They have strong teeth that continuously grow, and they need to chew on hay and other fibrous foods to wear them down.
Important note: Guinea pigs should never be fed meat, dairy products, or sweets. These foods can be harmful to their health.
