How to Bathe a Skinny Pig

Skinny pigs are mostly hairless guinea pigs, not to be confused with the completely hairless breed known as the Baldwin pigs. Skinny pigs have delicate skin and therefore have delicate bathing needs. Bathe your guinea pig every one to two months to ensure good hygiene for your animal. Since the skinny pig's skin is so sensitive, it's imperative that you use the correct type of product while cleaning to avoid rashes or other reactions.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the bottom of your sink with 1 inch of lukewarm water. Fill a small pitcher with the same lukewarm water and set aside.

    • 2

Set your skinny pig to stand in the water. If your skinny pig is smaller than average, the inch of water is too high, so drain a little bit of it.

    • 3

Use your hands to transfer some of the water over the skinny pig to dampen him.

    • 4

Massage a dollop of baby shampoo over the skinny pig's entire body, taking care to be gentle.

    • 5

Drain the water while you pour clean water from the pitcher, little by little, over the skinny pig until there is no trace of the baby shampoo. Make sure not to pour the water over the skinny pig's face and nose. Use your hands to rub away any shampoo that is lingering behind as you pour the water.

Pat your skinny pig dry gently with a warm, clean towel.
