How to Make a Bunk Bed for a Guinea Pig

Guinea pigs are cuddly and gentle pets belonging to the rodent family. Guinea pigs should live in ample size cages so that they have space to run around. When they are done playing, guinea pigs love to snuggle for comfort. Many guinea pig owners purchase at least two guinea pigs because they are social animals. If you are looking for a unique sleeping place for your guinea pigs, try making your own pet bunk beds.

Instructions

    • 1
      Wash your plastic bowls.

Wash your plastic bowls thoroughly. Dry them well when finished.

    • 2
Cut large, arch shaped openings in each bowl.

Use the box cutter to cut large, arch shaped openings in each bowl, wide enough for your guinea pigs to fit through.

    • 3
Smooth the edges of the doorways with sandpaper.

Smooth out your new doorways using the sandpaper. Skipping this step may result in jagged plastic which could injure your guinea pig.

Turn one bowl upside down so that the bottom can act as the roof to the lower bunk.

    • 5
      Hot glue the bowls together.

Apply the nontoxic hot glue to the top of the roof. Place the other bowl on top of it right side up so that the bottoms are touching. Push down to make sure that the bowls are secure and even. Let sit for about a 30 minutes to make sure the hot glue is thoroughly dried.

Put a piece of fleece bedding down in your guinea pigs' cage and place the structure on top of it. Add another piece of fleece bedding into the top bowl so that the guinea pig sleeping on the upper level has a soft surface as well.
