Bath Caddies
-
Look at bath products gift sets--they usually come in some type of holder. Find a metal one. Good ones to use include metal shower organizers, or other small metal holders that are made of metal bars or pieces. Don't use the solid ones. Sometimes you can find these types of holders packaged with dish soaps, fancy bar soaps, or linen sprays.
Look for product holders in the organizational section of stores. Small shower caddies, hanging organizers, or kitchen organizers also work well for DIY hayracks.
Setting Them Up
-
Clear a space in your small animal cage. These hayracks work best with cages that have metal or plastic bars. Set the DIY hayrack up along the side of the cage on the inside of the cage. Use metal twist ties to secure the hayrack on to the side of the inside of the cage.
If your small animal has a glass cage, you can hook the DIY hayrack over the top of the glass cage. This only works if you have the right type of hayrack. Shower caddies work well for this type.
Fill the DIY hayrack with hay for your animal. As long as there are spaces between the metal bars or pieces, your small animal will be able to get the hay out of the hayrack.

DIY Hay Rack
Small animals need hay as part of their daily diet. Animals like guinea pigs, rabbits, and other small animals exist on a diet of fruits, vegetables and hay. When you place hay in an animal's cage, you can either set it on the floor of the cage or build a hayrack on your own to make your animal's hay more accessible. There are several strategies for making a DIY hayrack for small animals.
