When do Russian dwarf hamsters hibernate?

Russian dwarf hamsters do not hibernate, but they can go into a state called torpor. Torpor is a state of deep sleep in which the body temperature drops and the hamster's breathing and heart rate slow down. Torpor is triggered by cold weather or a lack of food, and it allows the hamster to conserve energy. Russian dwarf hamsters typically enter torpor for short periods of time, but they can remain in torpor for several days or even weeks.
