Why do hamsters spit out seeds when you hold them?

Hamsters don't spit out seeds when you hold them because they're trying to be mean or get rid of something they don't like. It's a common behavior for several reasons:

* Storing for later: Hamsters are known for their hoarding habits. They instinctively stash food in their cheek pouches, often referred to as "cheek pouches." When they're full, they might release seeds to make space for more.

* Nervousness: Being held can be stressful for a hamster, even if it's used to being handled. They might release seeds as a way to relieve stress or anxiety.

* Overeating: If a hamster is given too many seeds at once, they may eat too much and then release the excess from their cheek pouches.

It's important to note that this behavior isn't always a sign of stress or discomfort. However, if your hamster is exhibiting other signs of stress, like teeth chattering, panting, or attempting to bite, it's best to avoid holding them for extended periods.
