Squealing Noises
-
The hamster will make loud squealing calls that indicate it is afraid and alarmed. The squeals will take place when something is threatening it, like a cat or a larger animal, or when an unknown hand or other object is placed into its cage. It will usually retreat rather than attack.
Squeaking Noises
-
The hamster will make squeaking noises when it is in the mood to mate if it is an older hamster, and when it is looking for attention from its mother when it is an infant hamster. The squeaking noises are fairly common and will take place at all hours of the day and night. Hamsters also squeak to alert each other as to where they are located in the tank.
Teeth-Chattering Noises
-
Teeth-chattering noises are made when the hamster is relaxed. It is also a way for the hamster to grind down its teeth. The hamster's teeth will always grow throughout its life and it will grind its teeth together and chew on toys, nuts and other foods to get its teeth to grind down.
Other Hamster Noises
-
Hamsters who cough and sneeze are sick with a cold or infection and need an appointment with a veterinarian in order to determine what kind of illness the hamster has. Hamsters are also known to hiss at times. They will make this noise when they are angry or on the defense. Hamsters also make clicking noises that can represent a chest infection that could be located in the lung area.

Hamster Noises
Hamsters communicate with the world around them, and the owners can understand what the hamster is saying if the owners pays attention to it. Hamster owners can tell when the animal is frightened, excited, happy or scared by the way it makes certain noises and moves around its cage. Paying attention to the hamster noises allows the owner to provide for the hamster's needs.
